Winter Warmer Fundraiser

When - Sunday 7th August
Time - 2pm to 4pm
Where - Grosvenor Hotel Beer Garden
Why - Acknowledging National Homelessness Week
How - with a Winter Warmer Fundraiser

Hosted by Bryan Littlely and the local firewood suppliers this unique event will hopefully become an annual fundraiser for the Homelessness Early Intervention Program.

During the afternoon there will be several donated trailer loads of wood which will become available via auction or through prize draws. A raffle will add to the fundraising effort. And you will be provided with a short dissertation on the Fleurieu Homelessness Early Intervention program

Any supporters, friends or family are welcome to attend and although the bar will be open we also hope to offer a bit of a soup kitchen to keep you warm and offer sustenance as you help raise funds for this vital community need.

Anyone interested in buying one of the loads of firewood before the 7th of August can do so by emailing Bryan at bryan@fleurieusun.com.au
If we sell all of the wood before the day then it is likely that we can still throw together one or two more on the day to auction off.

Homelessness Early Intervention Program
This year our area has seen the cost of rentals spike dramatically with average prices in the region reaching $350 per week and above.
In the past 6 months the majority of referrals to the Early Intervention Service have been due to owners now occupying their rentals, selling or renting to family. Tenants referred to the Early Intervention program have generally been in rentals for lengthy periods of time but are now having to relocate.

Barriers to finding new accommodation have included no savings, some people being computer illiterate or low literacy levels and needing assistance to complete forms to apply for rentals, or apply to SAHA for a Bond and/or rent in advance. Additionally there has been a need to advocate for local services to assist with funding bonds and rent in advance and or liaise with real estate agencies on their behalf.

People who seek support from SAHA for Bond and rent in advance are still being assessed at low affordability for a rental property and are often not approved for financial support for their bind and RIA, meaning they are unable to obtain a rental suitable to their needs in the region.
The Fleurieu Early Intervention Program commenced in February 2020 at a time of genuine need. But we have only seen that need escalate recently.

Contact the Foundation if you or your community group can assist with this function or with financial support of the Early Intervention program.
